WHAT IS A LAB GROWN DIAMOND?
In terms of chemical, physical and optical properties, a laboratory grown diamond (LabGrown- or LG-Diamond) is identical to a diamond mined from the earth’s crust. In other words, it is not a special diamond, not a simulant or a synthetic diamond, but THIS IS A DIAMOND. If the mining of diamonds in the ground leaves quite a noticeable mark on the environment and society, then the production of laboratory grown diamonds in the carbon crystallization process in laboratory conditions is many times smaller. In the laboratory, the natural process that took place inside the earth is imitated.
WHY LAB DIAMOND?
As with natural diamonds, laboratory grown diamonds can be selected according to the same evaluation criteria. 4C – color, clarity, cut and carat (weight) as well as all other evaluation criteria (Cut Grade, Polish, Symmetry) are exactly the same for a laboratory grown diamond.
The main reason is ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT AND PRICE. Like natural diamonds, we source lab diamonds directly from ‘first hand’ cutters, which is why our prices are unbeatable. Depending on the size and characteristics of the stones, we can offer laboratory diamond prices that are 50-60% lower than natural diamonds and even more. We have more than 30 years of experience in the Estonian jewelry market and have earned the trust of Estonian consumers. Since it is difficult for an ordinary buyer to distinguish between a natural and a laboratory diamond, it is advisable to avoid the confusion that prevails in shopping centers and find a reliable seller!
ARE LABORATORY DIAMONDS CERTIFIED?
All lab diamonds over 0.50 carats are certified by an independent international gemmological laboratory (IGI, GIA or HRD). In Estonia, it is also possible to have it determined whether a diamond is natural or a laboratory diamond. Over time, more and more of these laboratory equipment will be created, but one of the longer-term evaluation experiences is at the Estonian metrology central institution Metrosert AS, where the testing laboratory for precious metals and precious stones is also located.
